PERIODONTAL TREATMENT

Increased risk:
Among the adult population, most often people above 40, periodontitis is a disease we see in about 40% of the population.
You can say that periodontitis is a disease that strikes because your own immune system overreacts to the presence of bacteria. Some patients can tolerate 1000 different bacteria without a reaction, others cannot tolerate a single bacteria before a reaction occurs.
That is why you need your dentist to help you find the right brushing technique for you, so that you can keep your teeth and gums completely clean during the day.
Periodontitis usually starts with bleeding from the gums.
You must keep an eye on this marker. healthy gums do not bleed.
If you ignore this, your gum pockets will slowly get deeper and thus more bacteria can accumulate and it becomes a vicious cycle.
This cycle must be broken. The dentist will help you with the right treatment that will reduce the pockets depth, so that you, once again, are able to maintain control with careful dental care.
Most often this can be done by more frequent deep-pocket cleanings, but in some cases, in stubborn areas, a simple operation can remove the excess gum so you can regain control.
How do I avoid getting periodontitis:
It is not certain that you can protect yourself 100% against developing periodontitis. It is therefore important that you are regularly checked by your dentist.
You should pay attention to your oral hygiene, observe if changes occur, it could for example be bleeding, tenderness or swelling.
Increased risk of periodontitis:
-
Smoking. Smokers have a significantly higher risk of developing periodontitis compared with nonsmokers.
-
Heredity. If your siblings or your parents suffer from periodontitis
-
Certain immune diseases
-
Treatment with certain drugs that weakens the immune system
5. Diabetic patients often suffer from a more aggressive periodontitis, especially if the diabetes disease is not regulated and the blood sugar is thus not under control.
Will my gums get healthy again?
Yes, with the right focus and with the right treatment, periodontitis can be cured.
The tissue you have already lost cannot be restored. And there will always be a risk of relapse. That is why it is incredibly important that you visits your dentist and never compromise on careful cleaning of your teeth.
